U.S. Soccer's Centennial Celebration Match between USA and Germany Continues RFK Stadium's Soccer Legacy

Historic RFK Stadium to host match as part of U.S. Soccer's 100-year Anniversary Celebration

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Soccer announced today that RFK Stadium will host the U.S. Men's National Team (USMNT) versus Germany in a Centennial Celebration Match on Sunday, June 2 at 2:30 pm. ET. The Centennial Celebration Match is part of U.S. Soccer's 100-year anniversary celebration in 2013.

RFK Stadium will host the USMNT for the 22nd time, the most of any venue in the world. Overall, the USA is 13-3-5 at RFK Stadium, and in the midst of a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1). The USMNT last played at RFK against Jamaica, earning a 2-0 victory on June 19, 2011, and advancing to the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

''We take great pride in the vast and colorful soccer history at RFK Stadium, and the U.S. Men's National Team has greatly contributed to this legacy,'' said Erik A. Moses, managing director of Events DC's Sports and Entertainment Division. ''With its legendary bouncy seats and passionate soccer atmosphere, RFK is the perfect setting for U.S. Soccer's Centennial Celebration Match, and we look forward to a competitive match this June.''

U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann touted the rich history of RFK Stadium, and the amazing fan base in the venue.

''We are very excited about playing Germany on the second of June at RFK Stadium because that stadium means a lot to U.S. Soccer,'' said Klinsmann. ''It's a big moment for the whole organization against an opponent who is one of the best in the world - they've won three World Cups - but also in a venue that has seen a lot of our big games. There will be a lot of good memories to be discussed.''
