Kid Power Expands Free Programming for All DC Public and Charter Schools
Kid Power is a non-profit organization located in Ward 2 of the District of Columbia that provides free (now virtual) afterschool programming for grades 2 through 5. Previously, Kid Power only served a few schools, but after realizing the struggles many families are facing, they opened services to all DC Public Schools and DC Public Charter Schools.
Currently, due to distance learning, Kid Power is offering two program options: KP Connect and KP Club programming. KP Connect, which operates Monday to Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 PM provides one-on-one tutoring and much needed social time with peers. KP Club Programming, which only operates on Fridays from 3:30 to 5:00 PM, alternates weekly between virtual field trips and engaging special interest clubs led by a KP instructor.

Watch the Capital Long Drive Classic on GATHER by Events DC
The Capital Long Drive Classic brought together a roster of top male and female Long Drive professionals for the first-ever golf event of its kind on the National Mall in Washington, DC. The inaugural event transformed West Potomac Park into a long drive competition with the iconic backdrop of the National Mall and Memorial Parks area. The event featured top professional men’s and women’s long drive athletes in a unique co-ed exhibition that showcases golf’s racial and gender diversity.

Events DC Supports Inaugural Efforts
The RFK Stadium-Armory campus provided staging grounds for a number of crucial security resources including troops, equipment and vehicles for the National Guard, vehicle staging for the Secret Service and for local first responders. The Campus also provided staging grounds for production companies responsible for the buildout of the National Mall during the Inauguration ceremony.

Ward 7 Season of Giving
On Saturday, December 19, 2020, Ward 7 Councilmember Vincent Gray hosted his annual Ward 7 Winter Holiday Giveaway at the RFK Campus in Lots 1, 2, and 3. Given the COVID-19 safety guidelines, residents remained safely in their vehicles while waiting to receive their gift cards. Councilmember Gray provided a total of three hundred gift cards to Ward 7 residents in need at this year’s event. While the 2020 giveaway was different from in the past, Councilmember Gray and his team didn’t let the public health emergency dampen their giving spirit. Kudos to Councilmember Gray and his team!

Teens Run DC, We Run This City!
Founded in 2009, DC nonprofit Teens Run DC (TRDC) empowers youth to envision and work toward the achievement of personal goals through distance running, mentoring, and social-emotional learning programming.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Teens Run DC staff have worked to maintain a high level of virtual programming to ensure youth remain connected. TRDC coaches host office hours twice weekly, covering a variety of topics to include in-person lunch and run clubs. Virtual programming includes a strengthening and high-intensity workout allowing youth participants to set physical strength goals and view their progress over time through minute-long exercise challenges. Coaches also offer tutoring and assistance with homework when needed.
