New Grocery Store to Come to Ward 7
A new Giant grocery store is headed to a 55,000 sq ft lot in Ward 7, only a few blocks from the DC-Maryland line. Currently, there are only three grocery stores are east of the Anacostia River, across Ward 7 and Ward 8. The decision to build a store there is one of many steps to expand food access to all neighborhoods of the city. “If we’ve got to get to the 100-yard line to score a touchdown, we’re halfway there,” said Mayor Bowser at the announcement.

Community Grant Spotlight: The STAND Foundation
Since 2015, The STAND (Strengthening Thoughts and Nurturing Dreams) Foundation makes connecting with nature and building self-awareness in a bustling urban city, like Washington, DC, more accessible. As an Events DC Community Grant awardee (FY2022, Cycle 2), they were granted for their Equestrians on the Rise program that teaches youth English hunters and equitation riding styles. Some of their youth have participated in rodeo competitions through the National High School Rodeo Association.
Based in Ward 7, The STAND Foundation extends its services throughout DC and surrounding areas. In addition to the Equestrians on the Rise program, they offer Equestrian Everything (equine themed thera-art), Great Outdoor Adventures (responsibility, patience, and good work ethic while learning about horses), Know Thyself Heal Thyself, and Free Your Mind Winter Wellness Retreat (winter activities with equine themed art activities). The STAND Foundation also offers Barn Days and volunteer opportunities to get acclimated with the programs and facility!
