Events DC Summer Movie Series Recap
Events DC was thrilled to host our annual Summer Movie Series with hit movie "Space Jam" at Gateway DC Pavilion (August 9) and the DC Armory Mall (August 16). The outdoor movie nights were jam-packed with family fun, with a live DJ, Foam-boree party, pony rides from The STAND Foundation, face-painting and tons of space to play! Attendees enjoyed free movie staples like candy, Rita's Ice, nachos, hot dogs and buttery popcorn.
Additionally, the community enjoyed giveaways from our partner Astound Broadband Powered by RCN and a cooling tent with free water and utility information from DC Water!

Events DC's STRIVE Interns Serve the Community
This summer Events DC hosted a fantastic group of interns who added value in every department across the organization. As part of their summer tasks, the interns volunteered at non-profit organizations like Bread for the City, Food & Friends, Capital Area Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House and Martha's Table. At Martha's Table, the interns planned an employee appreciation event that featured a 90s cookout theme with hot lunches, games, a photobooth and gift boxes containing a light-up speaker and electronic stylus for each of the employees. There were also multiple raffle prizes that anybody could win, including tickets to a Nationals game, a Wizards jersey and a Visa gift card. The main prize was two tickets to a Kevin Hart concert!
Events DC, an active and engaged member of the District, is committed to continue its support of non-profit organizations, as well as encouraging the next generation towards success in the hospitality industry. The STRIVE (Students Training in Rich Individual and Valuable Experiences) summer interns work in every department in the company. The program also focuses on professionalism, communication, respect, teamwork; and accountability.

RFK Stadium Update
The demolition process at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium is underway, with the ongoing abatement of potentially hazardous materials expected to last several months. Demolition of larger structural components will begin following the abatement process. We currently estimate that major structural components of the stadium will be removed by the end of 2023.
We are excited to honor and celebrate the stadium’s unmatched legacy as the demolition plan progresses. We also understand RFK Stadium has a rich history and includes items that remain of interest to many residents and fans.
Currently, we are in the process of surveying RFK Stadium items including seats and other memorabilia. All items will undergo a thorough evaluation to ensure safety, among other considerations, prior to any sale or dissemination. We plan to share more information regarding plans for sale and distribution of RFK Stadium items in the coming weeks.

Community Grant Spotlight: Teatro de Luna
For over 30 years, Teatro de Luna has provided both English and Spanish-speaking communities an outlet for theater from a Latin American perspective. Nestled in Ward 4’s Petworth, their mission is to promote and foster Hispanic culture by supporting cultural understanding between the Spanish and Anglo-Saxon speaking communities through theater in [Spanish] and other bilingual artistic activities. Throughout the year they host several free activities for the community to participate in.
As an Events DC Community Grant awardee (FY2022, Cycle 1), they were awarded for their Bilingual Artistic Workshops for Children, which was held virtually due socially distancing during COVID-19. This program caters to youth between 6 – 12 years old to broaden the appreciation and exposure to various artistic disciplines such as theater, music, movement, clowning, visual arts, and poetry. This program is hosted on Saturday mornings and segmented by age group and aims to teach youth how to appreciate the arts and foster positive mental wellness.
