More than 100 artists will show work at three-day, 25,000 square-foot event at the new Collection 14 in partnership with Madison Investments

Washington, D.C. (October 26, 2021) -- DC creative agency No Kings Collective and Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, are bringing together more than 100 artists and independent curators for three days in November for the second Umbrella art show. This massive free arts event will take place across 25,000 square feet of retail space at the new Collection 14, a mixed-use development project by Madison Investments (1400 W St. NW) from November 12 - 14.

Peter Chang and Brandon Hill of No Kings Collective have invited artists and several curators from DC, Miami, Los Angeles and beyond to fill the galleries with site-specific installations, photography, painting and more. Among the highlights will be rooms curated by No Kings, Latela Curatorial and Monochrome Collective, as well as immersive activations from Social Supply design and Studio Sonic. Visitors can expect to also see works by artists including No Kings’ Brandon Hill, Julia Chon, Naturel, Kate Campagna, Jack Labadie, Halim Flowers and many others.

By encouraging visitors to return to art events and view and collect works by local artists, Umbrella is a way to acknowledge “that a rising tide raises all ships,” says Peter Chang of No Kings. “Artists have had a hard time during Covid-19. Brandon and I want to offer artists a platform and keep pushing the message that DC is and will remain a creative town,” Chang continues. “Along with our partners Events DC and Madison Investments, we’re proud to be supporters of our community and champion the arts and artists that are so important to Washington DC’s economy and recovery.”

As the presenting sponsor of Umbrella, Events DC aims to provide unforgettable experiences for residents and visitors through strategic investments that will bring economic benefits to the community and simultaneously position DC on a global stage.

“Events DC is committed to attracting and supporting world-class cultural events that showcase the best of Washington, DC,” said Greg O’Dell, president and CEO of Events DC. “DC is open and we are excited to see thousands of guests descend on our city to enjoy our thriving arts and creative community that is vital in our ongoing recovery efforts.”

The first Umbrella was held in 2019 just before development began on the Collection 14 project and drew more than 12,000 art fans and high-profile guests. The second Umbrella - in collaboration with Events DC - continues the partnership between No Kings Collective and Madison Investments, the developer of Collection 14, and will introduce visitors to the now-complete, multi-use project.
