Community Spirit

Our local community is vital to Washington, DC today - and tomorrow. Events DC venues and events are woven into the city’s fabric. After all, this is where we live, work and play, too.

As a visible, active member of the local community, Events DC prioritizes investment in programs and activities that support, engage, and inspire our neighbors in the District. Some of our favorites include:

  • Winter Wonderland
  • Feast of Sharing
  • Jolly Jamboree
  • Costume Carnival
  • Summer Movie Series
  • Windows Into DC
Winter Wonderland 2019

Winter Wonderland

In partnership with the Advisory Neighborhood Commission, we host nearly 100 children from the Shaw community each year at our Winter Wonderland. This fun-filled, holiday event not only distributes toys, it spreads the joy of the season to families, the local community and city officials.

Feast of Sharing

For two decades, our partnership with Safeway, Inc. on the annual Feast of Sharing at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center celebrates the spirit of giving by serving meals and clothing during the Thanksgiving holiday season and providing health screenings and access to city services.

Jolly Jamboree (2019)

Jolly Jamboree

Each December, Events DC hosts Jolly Jamboree, a winter land themed event held at the R.I.S.E. Demonstration Center on the St. Elizabeths East Campus. This event creates a festive and spirited environment for youth of all ages in Ward 8. This event includes family orientated activities for all to enjoy along with a special gift and picture from Santa himself for all boys & girls in attendance. Light refreshments are included to include hot cider, coco, and holiday treats to name a few. The DC Circulator provides a holiday themed bus filled with goodies for all to enjoy.

Costume Carnival

Annually, Events DC hosts Costume Carnival at the Gateway DC pavilion. The purpose of the event is to provide a safe and secure location for the residents of ward 8 to enjoy the Halloween festivities. The family-friendly Halloween celebration is free to the public and features pony rides, inflatables, face painting, music by DJ Flava of WKYS, dancing and free food provided by a local caterer. Decorated as a fall festival-styled carnival, the Gateway DC pavilion resembles a pumpkin patch as children, and their parents can decorate pumpkins throughout the night. Families with children of all ages dress as their favorite characters for a chance to win the evening’s costume contest. Local community partners decorate designated booths under the Gateway DC pavilion and hand out candy for trick-or-treaters. The carnival concludes with the costume contest, which follows a fashion show-style judging in which two youth (boy and girl), one adult and a community partner is awarded with a special prize for the best decorative costume and booth.

Summer Movie Series

Events DC’s Summer Movie Series, presented by RCN, is an annual, outdoor screening of Blockbuster hits, hosted on RFK Campus Oklahoma Lawn, ESA Campus Gateway DC Pavilion, and Convention Center Campus Carnegie Library Lawn. This event is a hit each summer as it’s free and open to the community!  Along with the movie attendees enjoy playing interactive games, inflatables, face painting, music and more. Free meals prepared by local caterers in the respective wards are provided to all in attendance.

Windows Into DC

Events DC is a long-time champion of local businesses. In partnership with the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, our first of its kind exhibit Windows into DC energized select storefronts and windows at the exterior of the Convention Center. Exhibit installments highlight creative expressions that represent the nation’s capital and promote the indie talents of local makers and artists.
