‘Tis the Season for Winter Wonderland

The mild weather on December 17, 2022, was the perfect backdrop for Winter Wonderland, a holiday celebration hosted by Events DC at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center for children up to 14 years of age from the surrounding community. Youth were pre-registered by area Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners (ANCs) and other key stakeholders. Returning to an in-person

format for the first time since 2019, Events DC staff and volunteers were excited to welcome 115 of our youngest neighbors and their families to enjoy the festivities.

Events DC President and Chief Executive Officer Angie M. Gates was on hand to greet the attendees and spread holiday cheer. Each child received a complimentary gift during the fun-filled morning that included 360 photo booth videos, wooden ornament decorating, handmade greeting cards, face painters and music by DJ Divine.  Thanks to the support of generous partners, guests enjoyed kid-friendly refreshments and cookie/cupcake decorating stations sponsored by Aramark, eight-foot holiday characters courtesy of the Downtown DC Business Improvement District (BID), a magician and a caricature artist provided by CalPro, photos with Santa presented by Anacostia Coordinating Council (ACC) and a whimsical Christmas tree donated by Daylilly Landscaping.

Now in its 24th year, Winter Wonderland exemplifies the magic of the season for children and adults alike.
