42nd annual National Capital Bank Capitol Hill Classic
The 42nd annual National Capital Bank Capitol Hill Classic is coming on May 21st, 2023! Washington’s largest and oldest 10K will bring runners through the roadways of historic Capitol Hill, winding past the U.S. Capitol, the Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, the Folger Shakespeare Library, Lincoln Park, East Capitol Street, and the Fields at RFK; we also will have our regular 3K and kids’ fun run that will follow the 10K.
The National Capital Bank Capitol Hill Classic 10K race is a major annual fundraiser for the Capitol Hill Cluster School, a DC public school with over 1,100 students. This will be the 42nd annual running of the Classic, which includes a 10K race, a 3K race, and a kids’ fun run, and is the only race run exclusively on the roads of Capitol Hill.
The course for the 10K starts out in front of Peabody Primary School a few blocks from the US Capitol. Runners head west around the corner of Stanton Park and then straight to the Capitol. The course continues between the Capitol, the Supreme Court, and the Library of Congress before turning east and then heading up to the tree-lined canopies along East Capitol Street. Runners continue along East Capitol around Lincoln Park to RFK Stadium, and then onto the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. After a circle along the trail, runners head back in along East Capitol to return to the finish at Peabody.
The 3K course starts out in front of Peabody Primary School, heading west around the corner of Stanton Park before turning down to East Capitol Street. Runners continue in the shade of East Capitol to Lincoln Park before turning around and heading back to Peabody for the finish.
The Fun Run is a single lap around Stanton Park (approximately a third of a mile).
