Events DC, the official convention and sports authority of Washington, DC is hosting tours of its world-class art collection housed in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. The curator-led March tour will feature several women artists to honor Women’s History Month.
The Walter E. Washington Convention Center has one of the largest art collections outside of a museum in the District. Events DC President and CEO Angie M. Gates celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the art collection last year. The collection featuring local, national and international artists represents the distinct qualities of the communities in the District of Columbia. The paintings, photographs, sculptures and other artistic work support the local creative community, as well as beautify and inspire those who visit the Convention Center. The collection is comprised of about 50% local DC-area artists.
Radcliffe Bailey’s “Black Star Line,” Sam Gilliam’s “Many Things” and Sol Lewitt’s “Wall Drawing #1103” are among the many other works in the 130-piece collection.
The public is asked to register for the free events. Links are included with each date. Tour check-in is at 6:15 p.m. Tours begin at 6:30 p.m.
