Events DC announced today that it won four Telly Awards at this year’s 44th Annual Telly Awards. The films were created by Events DC’s team behind its fully integrated online platform that provides a diverse array of storytelling and resources, GATHER.

“Food Stories” and “This is Oktoberfest” won gold, while “Rugby|The Sport of the Future” secured a silver with “Dishing It!” rounding out the Telly Awards wins with a bronze.

We celebrate the creators and producers who help make Washington, DC the Capital of Creativity,” said Events DC President and CEO Angie M. Gates. “GATHER was established to bring new and meaningful narrative elements to the spectacular events Events DC hosts, such as the Embassy Chef Challenge and the Premier Rugby Sevens. Our Creative Services team produces these wonderful films to reveal entirely new experiences for our audiences locally and nationally.”  

The Telly Awards honor excellence in video and television across all screens and are judged by leaders from video platforms, television, streaming networks and production companies. The nominees include features across the spectrum of media, from BBC World Service, Netflix and National Geographic Society to smaller outlets, such as GATHER by Events DC.

“The caliber of the work this season coming from creators such as Events DC truly has reflected the theme of breaking out and standing out,” said Tellys Executive Director Sabrina Dridje. “Our industry is experimenting with new technologies like never before, crafting truly compelling stories.”

Gold Telly Award winner, “Food Stories,” features four films that capture one person’s connection to their culture’s cuisine. Through personal stories, treats and delicacies from Peru, Ukraine, India and Philippines are shared adding new elements of understanding to Events DC’s International City Food Festival. “Food Stories” was produced by Events DC’s Creative Services Division and Cottage Creative.

This is Oktoberfest,” another Gold Telly awardee, explains the history and culture of Oktoberfest in Germany and how it became a world-wide celebration. After highlighting the signature fun activities, foods and sweets, members of the District’s German community invite the viewer to Events DC’s inaugural Oktoberfest celebration, a part of the International City Food Festival. “This is Oktoberfest” was produced by Events DC’s Creative Services Division and Pendragwn Productions, in partnership with the German American Heritage Foundation.

Following a wildly popular rugby match between the U.S. Men’s National Rugby team and the New Zealand All Blacks, “Rugby|The Sport of the Future,” the Silver Telly Award winner was released. This film allows the viewer to explore the sport of rugby—its history, the efforts to diversify the sport and more through interviews with team members. As the sport’s popularity and the DC rugby scene grow, Events DC has secured several matches, including being the host city for future matches, including the Premier Rugby Sevens championship in August.  “Rugby|The Sport of the Future,” was produced by Events DC’s Creative Services Division and Warner Hanson Television, in partnership with the New Zealand All Blacks, USA Rugby and Old Glory DC Rugby.

Another online series, “Dishing It!” won a Bronze Telly Award. The six episodes in this series take the audience behind the scenes at Events DC’s highly popular 2022 Embassy Chef Challenge. From speaking to Embassy Chefs from Georgia, El Salvador and the African Union to highlighting the event, itself, viewers can feel the excitement in the meaning, preparation and love behind the event. “Dishing It!” was produced by Events DC’s Creative Services Division and Warner Hanson Television.

This year’s awards follow Events DC winning four Telly Awards in 2022. One award winner, “Embassy Chef Challenge: Afghanistan,” also received a coveted 2022 Emmy Award, a first in the history of Events DC This year, Events DC was nominated for another Emmy Award for its recently released “Outside Line,” an original documentary following the successful journey of Rajah Caruth, a DC native who is paving the way as a  NASCAR driver The 44th Annual Telly Awards had a record-breaking year with nearly 13,000 entries from across the globe and top video and television content producers.
