DC Armory Welcomes the 11th Annual Title IX DC Conference and Classic this December
From December 27-30, the historic DC Armory will host the 11th Annual Title IX DC Conference and Classic, a premier women’s basketball showcase that also includes a companion conference and career summit.
Now its 11th year, the tournament hosts a banquet and multiple educational workshops in addition to three days of top flight basketball. The educational aspect of the tournament helps create and maintain awareness among young women of the profound and lasting impact of the historical Title IX legislation enacted in 1972.
This year’s event features some impressive numbers – 1,200 girls, 74 teams from 24 states plus the US Virgin Islands and Canada, playing on 5 courts across 4 days of basketball action. NCAA, CIAA and NJCAA eligible players will compete before a wide range of coaches and scouts seeking to award athletic scholarships to female student athletes.
When the event started in 2009, it featured just eight teams on one court. This year, 74 teams are on the schedule competing across nine brackets, including one specifically for junior college programs.
