Hoop Culture announced the United States All-Star Team for the 50th Annual Hoop Culture Capital Classic presented by Events DC today. The nation’s most legendary high school basketball All-American Game will be played on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, DC.

“We are amazed with the quality of talent and character of the U.S. All-Stars,” said Tom Doyle, CEO of the Capital Classic and Hoop Culture.

“The 50th annual Hoop Culture Capital Classic is shaping up to be one spectacular game on April 29,” said Events DC President and CEO Angie M. Gates. “I am very excited that Events DC is hosting this dynamic showcase of young athletic talent at Entertainment & Sports Arena this spring.”

The U.S. All-Stars will be led by University of Memphis recruit and social media sensation Mikey Williams (San Ysidro High School).

“I am extremely honored to be selected to play in the Capital Classic,” stated Williams. “We are definitely looking to continue the U.S. dominance over the Capital All-Stars while putting on a great show for the fans,” Williams added. He will be joined by his high school team Javonte “JJ” Taylor, who is also a University of Memphis commit.

Multiple members of the U.S. All-Stars have an NBA pedigree. Carey Booth (Brewster Academy / Penn State University) is the son of former Washington Wizard and current Denver Nuggets General Manager Calvin Booth. Devin Vanterpool’s (Christ the King / Florida Atlantic University) father, David, played in the 1991 Capital Classic for the Capital All-Stars, played for the Washington Wizards and coached with several NBA teams, including most recently with the Brooklyn Nets. Kenny Satterfield, Jr. (St. Patrick School / University of Alabama at Birmingham) is the son of former Denver Nugget Kenny Satterfield, Sr.

The Capital Classic will also have its first-ever member from Overtime Elite (OTE). Malik Bowman, who spent the last season with the new professional league, signed with OTE during his junior campaign at Bishop Walsh School (Cumberland, MD).

Other Notables are Cameron Barnes (Duncanville High School / Undecided), Trey Green (Prolific Prep / Xavier University), Papa Kante (South Kent School / University of Michigan), KJ Lewis (Duncanville High School / University of Arizona), Mike Nwoko (Prolific Prep / University of Miami), and Youssouf Singare (Our Savior Lutheran School / University of Connecticut).

Ricky Goings, director of Player Engagement and Alumni Relations for the Capital Classic, stated, “The United States All-Stars are stocked with players who will be representing their colleges in next year’s NCAA tournament. They will be showcased against a strong Capital All-Star team in a competitive all-star game as part of a celebratory weekend for our 50th Anniversary.”

The U.S. coaching staff will be led by University of Maryland alumnae and current CBS commentator Adrian Branch. He has selected Chuck Driesell (Maret High School, Washington, D.C.) Ralphael Chillious (South Kent High School, Connecticut), Malcolm Battle (Bard High School, Washington, D.C.) as his assistants. Mr. Driesell, son of legendary University of Maryland coach Lefty Driesell, has also served as an assistant at Georgetown University and Maryland. Mr. Chillious has built a powerhouse program at South Kent Prep where U.S. All-Star Papa Kante attends. Mr. Battle led Bard High School to the 2023 DCIAA and DC State Championships in only its third year in existence.
