Nation’s prominent high school basketball All-American game celebrates 50 years in Washington, D.C., with a new mixed-gender format

BETHESDA, MD (6 February 2023) – XML Financial Group (XML), an independent wealth and investment management firm with offices in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Colorado, today announced it will be the official wealth management sponsor of this year’s Hoop Culture Capital Classic, which will be played April 29 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.

The Hoop Culture Capital Classic – the nation’s first high school basketball All-American game – annually features the top 10 high school basketball players in the capital region (D.C., Maryland and Virginia) versus top student-athletes assembled from across the country. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Capital Classic has become a major spotlight game for many elite basketball players, including NBA All-Stars and Hall of Famers such as LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and Moses Malone.

This year’s game will be the first in three years due to COVID-19 disruptions of in-person activities. It will also mark the first time that both rosters are comprised of mixed-gender lineups, with the teams each bringing eight high school men and two women.

“We are excited to support the Capital Classic and usher in a new era for the game that started it all,” said Brett Bernstein, CEO and Co-Founder of XML. “Navigating financial responsibilities as an elite college and future professional athlete is challenging. We want to be the wealth management resource to help guide these talented individuals as they approach next-level financial opportunities.”

Presented by Events DC, this year’s game will pay tribute to founder Robert “Bob” Geoghan, who achieved great things for basketball in the local community. Geoghan, who also established the McDonald’s All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic, passed away in February 2022.
