Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, released the following statement on the passing of Ted Lerner, a native Washingtonian, owner of the Washington Nationals and regional real estate developer.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Ted Lerner. He had an indelible impact on the landscape of the greater Washington metropolitan area. The greatest of those is bringing baseball back to the nation’s capital—and the memorable 2019 World Series win. Events DC worked with Ted Lerner and his family in hosting fans at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium and later with the development and ongoing management of Nationals Park. Much like his work building a successful baseball team, his work revitalizing the Navy Yard, Tysons Corner and Wheaton Plaza, not to mention the thousands upon thousands of homes he built, helped to establish what is now a thriving and spirited Washington, DC region. We offer our sincere condolences to the Lerner family, friends and colleagues impacted by this loss,” said Events DC President and CEO Angie M. Gates.
