Events DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, announced today the Community Grants program is now open to receive applications.
As an active and engaged member of the community, Events DC supports the future of non-profit organizations in Washington, DC that promote youth participation in both the arts and athletics. A record total of 52 organizations received grants in fiscal which totaled $500,000 in Community Grants
“Events DC’s Community Grant Program reaches youth organizations in all eight wards of the District,” said Max Brown, chairman, Events DC board of directors. “We encourage all DC-based nonprofits that focus on engaging our young people through the performing and cultural arts and athletics to attend our informational sessions and apply for funding.”
“The Community Grant Program is a fantastic opportunity for our neighborhood organizations to get a financial boost while helping to inspire and encourage youth throughout the District to reach their goals,” said Events DC President and CEO Angie M. Gates. “Supporting our future District of Champions and the Creative Capital is one of the most important things we do here at Events DC.”
Events DC accepts applications twice each fiscal year for two grant cycles. Grant amounts range from $2,500 to $25,000. The application deadline for fiscal 2024’s first grant cycle is August 1, 2023.
“Funding from Events DC has helped The Fishing School lead our Clubs curriculum at partner sites this year. In our afterschool program, we combine academic enrichment with non-cognitive activities that help develop the whole child; in Clubs, students get to explore personal interests like art and fitness,” said Christopher Anuzis, director of The Fishing School’s Development and Communications. “The grant from Events DC enabled us to purchase supplies for this program component this past year.”
"Our Community Grant from Events DC allowed our Young Actor program to continue to offer DC youth aged 10-17 a safe and fun space to experiment, learn and grow as actors,” said Emily Morrison, executive director of Studio Acting Conservatory. “We have provided full scholarships to half of our students each semester - giving many kids the opportunity to study acting who otherwise would not have the resources to do so, and also trained an additional teacher, who began teaching this past spring. Thank you EventsDC!”
Several information sessions will be held for interested organizations throughout July. For more information, please click here.
