WalkingTown DC

WalkingTown DC returns to all eight wards offering more than 50 free guided walking tours that showcase the city's beauty and history of its vibrant neighborhoods. Events DC is proud to bring back the program in its 24th year.

“September is going to be a perfect time to explore DC and experience its culture” said Events DC President and Chief Executive Officer Angie M. Gates. “Getting people to see DC and its neighborhoods as thriving, vibrant places to spend time and money is key to the city’s economic growth and stability.”

Attendees will have the ability to step into the rich history, captive stories and vibrant culture of the District as they experience the heartbeat of the city. The program begins on September 16 and runs through September 24. Residents and visitors alike will have the opportunity to embark on an unforgettable journey throughout DC neighborhoods, discovering hidden gems, iconic landmarks and untold tales.

WalkingTown DC offers an array of guided walking tours lead by knowledgeable and passionate tour guides, historians and local enthusiasts who will provide participants with an insider’s perspective on the city’s diverse neighborhoods and historical sites. Whether you are a history enthusiast, architecture buff or simply eager to uncover the city’s best-kept secrets, this event has something for everyone.

This year, tours will be guided by prominent personalities who will offer enriching experiences with their unique insights and stories. Join Director Rohulamin Quander from the Quander Historical and Educational Society to learn about the history of the U Street and Shaw neighborhoods, also known as "Black Broadway." Ride your bike and meet Councilmember (Ward 6) and Chair of the Council's Committee on Transportation Charles Allen on a tour of Kingman Island, an oasis within the city.
