Events DC’s short documentary, “How It Breathes,” will be screened on July 30 at the Woods Hole Film Festival in Cape Cod being held on July 27 through August 3. The film was produced by Events DC staff at GATHER by Events DC.
Released in advance of the annual DC JazzFest, “How It Breathes” profiles one of the festival’s most exciting and featured artists. Elijah Jamal Balbed is a Washington, DC-based musician and founder of the jazz and go-go fusion band, The JoGo Project. The film invites the viewer to glimpse into Balbed’s routine as a professional artist and learn about his unique musical path, which is deeply entwined with the very history of DC.
Jack Gordon, who is part of the Events DC production team behind “How It Breathes,” was key to Events DC winning an Emmy Award for “Outside Line,” a short documentary. “Outside Line” featured the story of Washington, DC’s own Rajah Caruth, one of a few Black NASCAR drivers who started out as a virtual racer.
The film was featured at the American Documentary and Animation Film Festival in Palm Springs, California in March. It also was shown at the River Run International Film Festival in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and the ThinLine Fest in Denton, Texas in April.
“How It Breathes” will continue to screen at film festivals throughout the year, with more announcements coming in the future.
