Events DC Announces Lineup of Community Events Featuring Movies and the First Ever Dog Days of Summer

Today, Events DC, the official convention and sports authority of Washington, DC, is announcing Summertime in the District, a summer event lineup which includes free movies, music and community fun in neighborhoods across the District. With events taking place in all four quadrants of the city, each event is free, open to the public, and designed to bring residents and visitors together.

The Summer Movie Series launches July 25 with the third annual Camp Zen at St. Elizabeths’ Gateway DC. This year’s kickoff event blends relaxation with celebration offering a petting zoo, yoga, meditation, holistic wellness experiences, food trucks, movie snacks and the screening of the movie “Wicked.” The night features a DJ, entertainment and a crowd favorite, Foamboree.

“We are thrilled to announce an exciting lineup of summer events for District residents and visitors," said Events DC President and CEO Angie M. Gates. "Through these free events, we aim to bring residents and visitors together to build connections while celebrating and elevating our unique communities. I encourage everyone to join us for an engaging event in a neighborhood near you.”   

The Events DC Summer Movie Series will feature outdoor movie screenings:

  • July 25 at St. Elizabeths Gateway: Screening “Wicked”with a day of yoga, meditation, a petting zoo and more fun family-friendly activities.
  • August 7 at the DC Armory Mall: “Piece by Piece”by Pharrell Williams, with themed activities, snacks and on-site activations.
  • August 13 at the Carnegie Library Lawn: Featuring “Mufasa: The Lion King,” plus a DJ, interactive activities and snacks.
  • August 19 at The Wharf: Screening “Moana” right by the water, with family-friendly, fun activities and snacks.

Events DC is also hosting Community Cooldown Ice Cream Socials beginning Wednesday, July 30. We are partnering with four local ice cream shops around the District to provide free ice cream to the community. These events will also feature a live DJ. 

Community Cooldown will be held at the following locations from 5 to 7 p.m.:  

  • Ward 1: Here's The Scoop!  - Wednesday, July 30 (2824 Georgia Avenue, NW)
  • Ward 3: Captain Cookie & the Milk Man - Thursday, July 31 (3411 Connecticut Avenue, NW)
  • Ward 4: Everyday Sundae - Friday, August 1 (713 Kennedy Street, NW)
  • Ward 5: Cold Stone Creamery (Dakota Crossing) - Tuesday, August 5 (2430 Market Street, NE)

Later in August, Events DC will host the first ever Dog Days of Summer at the Oklahoma Avenue Lawn on the RFK Campus featuring pet-friendly vendors, local animal advocacy groups, neighborhood pet hospitals and activities tailored to furry family members.
