In this holiday season of giving, gratefulness and goodwill, I am thankful for the opportunity that my new role as President and CEO presents. I especially look forward to sharing memorable moments with all our partners. Representing all of you and our collective goals to maintain the District of Columbia as a world-class destination is my highest honor. When I envision the future of the District of Columbia, I cannot help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride. Our city is growing at a historic pace, as more tourists, event organizers and businesses turn to DC as their premier destination.
Through it all, Events DC has been at the forefront of fostering community among Washingtonians and ushering in new opportunities for residents and businesses of all eight wards of the District. As a leading organization, Events DC continues to be a true innovator in the hospitality space while hosting some of the most coveted conventions, entertainment, sporting and cultural events in the nation’s capital. Most importantly, our work has been instrumental to the city’s growth. This is why I am honored to be at the helm of Events DC as the president and CEO.
As a DC resident for nearly twenty years, I am deeply committed to our city, and have devoted much of my career to creating unique opportunities for DC’s beloved residents. I’ve held several hospitality and entertainment-focused titles throughout my career, including key leadership roles in Mayor Muriel Bowser’s Administration, most recently as the director of the Office of Cable Television, Film, Music and Entertainment for the District.
Throughout my professional journey, I have sought out strategic partnerships that showcase the diverse array of talent available in DC and maximize growth for the city by positioning DC as a first-rate destination for businesses, visitors and large-scale events.
My success stems from my hard work, perseverance, faith, extensive venue management experience and the support of friends and family. Previously, I served as general manager of the Warner Theatre and associate general manager of New Orleans’ Saenger Theatre. My most recent role as the director of the Office of Cable Television, Film, Music and Entertainment further informed my venue management approach. These hands-on experiences provided me the opportunity to develop epic events aimed at driving economic growth and job creation.
As we look to the new year ahead, my primary focus as president and CEO of Events DC will be getting DC back to where we were prior to the pandemic, and then surpassing that benchmark for all core sectors throughout the company. In the short term, this will involve working quickly to increase conferences, overnight stays and large-scale events in DC. But the bigger picture carries even wider impact for the future of the city. Together, the Events DC team will keep moving the ball forward across the facets of our business, working to create connections locally, nationally and internationally.
The main driver for everything we do at Events DC is to improve the lives of DC residents. Above all else, this will be my primary priority as president and CEO of the organization. I am honored to be leading this incredibly important work.
Sincerely,
Angie M. Gates
