Smoot Construction Company of Washington, DC has completed the abatement of identified asbestos containing materials and non-structural demolition work within RFK Stadium. Additionally, all utilities servicing the stadium have been disconnected.
A Raze Permit was issued by the DC Department of Buildings in June. Events DC is also working with the National Park Service (NPS) on compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (“NEPA”) and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (“NHPA”).
Structural demolition will commence once the compliance work is completed, and approval is received from the National Park Service.
The National Park Service recently published its environmental assessment report for the demolition of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium. The report looks at the impacts and mitigations that would occur from the deconstruction project or leaving the stadium as it is. NPS is accepting public comments on the report through November 9, 2023.
