• Suburban Gardens was based in Deanwood as the District’s first and only amusement park open to African-Americans in 1921. It was also created by the Universal Development and Loan Company, a black-owned real estate and development company.
• Woodlawn Cemetery, located in Benning Ridge, serves as the final resting place for nearly 6,000 prominent Washingtonians.
• The Deanwood School was the first public school for African-Americans in Deanwood, which is currently IDEA Charter School.

This exciting program empowers students to tap into their passion for fashion and design by creating unique cleat designs inspired by the beauty of cherry blossoms and the spirit of international friendship. Don’t miss your chance to step into spring through art and design—one cleat at a time!
The theme this year is “Art of The Game,” which empowers young designers to transform cleats as they portray their connections to cherry blossoms and soccer.
