The Black History Month Pass the Mic series provides a platform for Events DC employees to share their stories and experiences regarding Black history and culture.

Today, we are passing the mic to Clinton Bunch, director of event services at Entertainment & Sports Arena. Bunch has been a member of the Events DC team for 21 years.

What does Black History Month mean to Bunch? "Recognition of the perseverance to overcome and the dedication the Black community has made to excellence," said Bunch. One of the aspects Bunch loves most of his Black culture is the unity amongst the group.

Finally, Bunch points back to 1999 when asked to describe a specific moment in Black history that shaped his life. The moment was when Muhammad Ali, widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century, was voted Sportsman of the Century by Sports Illustrated magazine. This triumph stands especially tall as Ali had been prohibited from boxing in the United States for three years after avoiding the draft.
