Giving Back to our District
In July 2021, Events DC hosted its annual Community Grant Program luncheon recognizing 44 District non-profit grant awardees from FY20 and FY21 with total annual grant awards of $100,000 and $250,000, respectively. The joint celebration was as result of postponing the 2020 luncheon because of COVID-19.

Day of Play at RFK
Over 2,700 people joined together at the Fields at RFK to celebrate the inaugural Day of Play at RFK. The day featured fun for all ages to engage in. The event had team games like kickball, dodgeball, family football, horseback riding, rock climbing, and much more. Day of Play featured community partners such as DC Fray and CRYSP, activations from DC’s Professional Sports Teams, and partners such as Pepsi and Washington Gas. Events D.C. was happy to see the community participate in this full community event.

DCIAA Basketball Championship
The Entertainment & Sports Arena hosted to the District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCIAA) basketball championships where the top boys and girls teams battled it out on the Washington Mystics’ home court.
For the second consecutive year, Dunbar High School took home the girls’ championship, and the Theodore Roosevelt High School boys team won their first title since 2014.

Citi Open 2021
After the pandemic forced its cancellation in 2020, Events DC helped bring the iconic Citi Open tennis tournament back to D.C. as a sponsor in 2021. The annual event is the only ATP World Tour 500-level event held in the United States.

International Soccer Drive-Thru Experience
Events DC invited area residents to watch soccer powerhouses Real Madrid and FC Barcelona compete in one of the sport’s biggest matches - El Clásico. The special drive-in watch party provided an opportunity for fans to enjoy the match like never before when it was broadcast live on the grounds of the historic RFK Stadium.

Jurassic Quest
From the safety of their cars, D.C.-area families had the chance to immerse themselves in a unique exhibit featuring life-size animatronic dinosaurs.
Jurassic Quest Drive-Thru, the largest interactive dinosaur exhibition in North America, provided an educational, engaging, and fun experience in a safe, socially distanced setting in accordance with COVID-19 safety protocols. Visitors traveled through various prehistoric periods, viewing lifelike dinosaur models created in consultation with leading paleontologists.

Summer Concert Series
Heralding the return of live music, Events DC launched the Summer Concert Series in 2021 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena. The four-night event featured a diverse lineup of acclaimed artists including Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Jason Cerda, and beloved D.C.-based groups Thievery Corporation, and Junkyard Band.
Focusing on community engagement, the series provided the opportunity for residents to enjoy live events in a safe environment. The series was also livestreamed on GATHER by Events DC to reach fans beyond the D.C. area.
