The origin or meaning of my name; Dee-Al-Oh (Diallo)
My roots are a beautiful blend of resilience and legacy. My father, Mamadou Diallo, hails from Guinea in West Africa, though our ancestral lineage traces back to Ethiopia in East Africa. Generations ago, our family migrated westward amidst political unrest, struggles that still echo through Ethiopia today. My mother is a proud native of Brooklyn, New York, adding her own strength and spirit to our story.
My father speaks Fulani, his native tongue, along with French and English, a linguistic legacy shaped by Guinea’s colonization by the French in 1891. His voice, rich with history and pride, has inspired my personal mission: to learn Fulani and French, to bridge the distance between me and my global family, and one day pass these traditions on to my own children.
Every story my father tells connects me more deeply to who I am. And with every word he speaks, I’m reminded of how honored I am to carry forward the strength, language, and culture of my African heritage.
