My Origin, My Story: Sangmi Park

SANGMI PARK

SANGMI PARK

Ddeokbokki (spicy rice cakes) is a popular Korean street food. It is a personal favorite and comfort food as it was one of the first Korean dishes I taught myself to make. It was also a staple after school snack that I always ate with my friends throughout middle school and high school when I lived in South Korea. Ddeokbokki is sweet, savory, and spicy all at the same time with rice cakes and eomuk (fish cakes) in a spicy red pepper sauce. The sauce is also good to add some rice and make fried rice afterwards or use it as a dipping sauce with fried tempura. It is one of the first things I eat whenever I visit Korea and a dish I make at home also when I seek for some comfort food.
