Gay Games DC 2022 Bid Committee Statement on Bid Results

Oct. 30, 2017 - The Federation of Gay Games has awarded the 2022 Games to Hong Kong. The vote follows almost two years of planning and campaigning by the DC Gay Games committee to win the bid.



“While we are very disappointed that Washington, DC was not chosen as the host city for the Gay Games XI, we extend our congratulations to Hong Kong” said Brent Minor, Chair of the Gay Games DC 2022 Bid Committee. “We are confident that they will present a great Gay Games and we look forward to bidding again in the future.” 



“I want to thank the committee for their tireless efforts in producing an outstanding bid. Washington, DC remains a top destination for LGBTQ travel and we welcome people from all backgrounds in our city as we continue to bring outstanding diverse events to the nation’s capital,” said Elliott L. Ferguson, II, president and CEO, Destination DC, Washington, DC’s official destination marketing organization.



“As we congratulate Hong Kong, I want to thank the entire bid committee and all the businesses and residents who worked so hard to get us to the final round,” said Mayor Bowser. “This has been a tremendous experience, and as a diverse and inclusive city, we look forward to continuing to welcome visitors from around the world.”



“On behalf of the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, Events DC was honored for Washington, DC to have been selected as a finalist for the Gay Games XI,” said Gregory A. O’Dell, Events DC president and CEO. “Being selected as a finalist to host this extraordinary event is a true testament and celebration of the incredible and passionate LGBTQ community in Washington, DC – and as a destination we will continue to showcase this. We look forward to continuing to support our quest to host future Gay Games in Washington, DC and strengthening our ongoing relationship with the Games’ organizers.”
