NWSL Championship

Title Match Will Take Place on October 29 at Audi Field

Washington, DC, (08/22/2022) – Events DC is proud to share that Washington, DC will host the 2022 NWSL Championship, the league announced today. The title match will be hosted by the defending champion Washington Spirit at Audi Field on Saturday, October 29. The event will mark the ninth championship match in NWSL history and the first held in our nation’s capital.

This year’s championship match is the latest major event to be announced to be hosted at Audi Field. Last month, U.S. Soccer finalized plans for the USWNT to host Nigeria in a friendly in Washington, DC. this September and, earlier this summer, MLS announced the stadium as the host of next year’s All-Star Game.

“Events DC is honored to partner with the Washington Spirit, D.C. United and the NWSL to bring championship soccer to DC at Audi Field,” said Ralph Morton, senior vice president and managing director, Sports & Entertainment Division at Events DC. “Attracting and hosting premier sporting events that showcase our nation’s capital as a dynamic sports destination is part of our mission, which is why we welcome the 2022 NWSL Championship. This is an exciting opportunity for residents and visitors to see North America’s best teams compete and experience the unmatched hospitality and attractions of Washington, DC”

Spirit season ticket members will receive special access to a presale event for tickets to this year’s NWSL Championship match beginning on Tuesday, August 23. Tickets will be available to the general public beginning on Wednesday, August 31.

Last season’s championship match took place at Lynn Family Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday, November 20. In the 2021 finale, the Washington Spirit took down the Chicago Red Stars 2-1 after extra time for the side’s first championship in club history. Should the Spirit advance to the title match again this season, it would become the fifth club to play in a championship match at its home stadium and first since the North Carolina Courage did it in 2019.
