Celebrating the 24th Anniversary of the Safeway Feast of Sharing, Safeway and Events DC are pleased to welcome the season of giving on Wednesday, November 22 with the first fully live in-person seated meal since 2019. The event will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Hall B (801 Allen Y. Lew Place, NW, Washington, DC).

Doors will open at 9 a.m. with Senior Sit and Be Fit, while the health expo starts at 9:30 a.m. The program begins at 11:15 a.m. in Hall B, and the traditional turkey meal will be served from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

“Safeway Feast of Sharing is a cherished holiday tradition that we are delighted to continue as we once again gather in person to share with neighbors,” said Tom Lofland, President Safeway Mid-Atlantic Division. “This Thanksgiving, we are especially grateful to our partners and volunteers for helping us share with those in our city who may not otherwise enjoy such a meal. It is a pleasure and a privilege to give back to our community.”

During this time of holiday celebrations, when many in the community are struggling, the Safeway Feast of Sharing presented by Events DC will provide attendees with a delicious and nutritious holiday meal featuring turkey and all the trimmings, prepared by Executive Chef Jon Dornbusch of Aramark.

“I am thankful for another opportunity to welcome District residents from all eight wards to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center for the 24th Annual Safeway Feast of Sharing,” said Events DC President and CEO Angie M. Gates. “Each member of the community who joins us for this special event plays such an important role in the lives of their family, friends and our great city. I look forward to hosting this celebration as a token of our thanks and commitment to our neighbors.”

Elected officials and special guests are expected to attend, including DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, Major Tuddy and Command Force team members, with more participants to be confirmed. A Military District of Washington Color Guard will present the colors and Chanda Brown-Wilson Sandidge will sing the National Anthem. R&B band LA Young & the Usual Suspects will provide musical entertainment.

While the Thanksgiving meal is the highlight of the day, the Safeway Feast of Sharing Health & Community Services Expo will feature an array of services and information, including the Safeway Pharmacy team providing free blood pressure tests, flu and COVID-19 shots, while DC Fire & EMS will offer CPR training blood pressure and glucose testing.

A clothing distribution organized by Runway for a Cause will take place until 2 p.m. (while stock lasts), featuring generous donations from partners, such a Burlington, Safeway, The Washington Commanders and Dr. Justine Love’s Sock it to Me campaign.

While it has been three years since the last in-person gathering, Safeway and Events DC hope to again serve some 5,000 city residents at Safeway Feast of Sharing, which brings together hundreds of volunteers and a host of community partners, including Aramark, The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command, The Washington Commanders, Burlington, Metropolitan Baptist Church, Runway for a Cause Foundation, Projection, Hi-Tech Electric, Digital Conventions and Unity Health Care.
