Hoyas and Huskies to Meet at Entertainment & Sports Arena Presented by ENGIE

Georgetown v UConn

Georgetown v UConn

The Georgetown University women's basketball team has announced that, for the second season in a row, it will play host to the UConn Huskies at Entertainment & Sports Arena (ESA), home of the WNBA's Washington Mystics, located in Southeast, Washington, D.C. In conjunction with Events DC and presented by ENGIE, the Hoyas will host the Huskies in a BIG EAST showdown on Sunday, January 7 at 1:30 p.m. Tickets for the must-see matchup are now on sale.

Last year, the Hoyas and Huskies met in front of a dynamic crowd at ESA. The event included alumni recognitions, a halftime fashion show and an event celebrating female athletes on the Hilltop. This season will prove to be just as exciting in the 59th meeting between the teams as both squads feature some of the top players in the BIG EAST Conference.

Now in its second season, ENGIE and Georgetown Athletics have signed an exclusive deal to present the entire women's basketball season including the contest against the Huskies. As part of its ongoing work to promote sustainability on campus, Georgetown University joined forces with ENGIE North America (ENGIE) in 2021 to design and implement sustainable modernization projects that enhance energy efficiency and contribute to the university's environmental stewardship and climate action goals. The Georgetown Energy Partners effort will reduce campus energy-use intensity by 35% by 2031.

“For the third year of our ongoing campus clean energy partnership, Georgetown Energy Partners is excited to continue our direct support of Georgetown Athletics. The University’s leadership in sustainability demonstrates long-term commitment to the present and future of the Hoya community. Building off of our core energy project together, our team’s ability to complement Georgetown’s community-focused goals as a sponsor of the women’s basketball team makes the impact of our work a slam dunk,” shared ENGIE Chief Energy Solutions Executive Jean-Francois Chartrain.

Entertainment & Sports Arena is where fans want to be. Opened in 2018, the 4,200-seat Arena is a hub for professional and collegiate sports, concerts, esports, boxing, and more. Entertainment & Sports Arena is home court for the WNBA Champion Washington Mystics and Capital City Go-Go of the NBA G League. The Arena is also home of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Basketball Championship and the official training facility for the NBA Washington Wizards. Located on the historic St. Elizabeths Campus in DC's Congress Heights neighborhood, the Arena is located just a short 3-minute walk from the Congress Heights station on Metro's Green Line.

"We are thrilled to host the women athletes from Georgetown and UConn again this year at the Entertainment & Sports Arena. Last year was such an exciting game. The energy was through the roof in the arena and the crowd had a great time," said Events DC President and CEO Angie M. Gates. "We welcome these illustrious teams, their fans, alumni and our neighbors to another fantastic BIG EAST match up."
